On the evening of October 27, the School of International Education and Exchanges held a movie screening activity themed “Beautiful China in the Lights”, attracting many international students. The international students watched Jianghu, the first episode of the documentary Travel with Tang Poetry. “‘Could I get mansions covering ten thousand miles, I’d house all scholars poor and make them beam with smiles’, I’ve learned this poem when I was at the school in Vietnam, but today by watching the introduction of Du Fu’s life experience in the documentary, I have truly felt the poet’s concern for the country and the people.” Vietnamese master student Qiao Zhuang said.
Travel With Tang Poetry is a cultural and historical documentary directed by Li Wenju, which was broadcast on the CCTV documentary channel on 23 November 2021. It has five episodes, taking five representative journeys of five ancient Chinese poets — Du Fu, Meng Haoran, Wang Wei, Cen Shen and Li Bai. Xi Chuan, a contemporary Chinese poet, Lu Dadong, a calligrapher, Li Bo and Yang Yu, scholars, and Han Songlu, a writer, are invited to go back to the places where the five journeys took place and enjoy the views of mountains and rivers.
“What an extensive and profound poetry culture China owns! The ancients a thousand years ago could draw a complete story with just a few short sentences, allowing us today to cross the long river of time and feel what they felt then, as if the story happened right in front of us.” the students said. While watching the documentary, they could not take their eyes off the magnificent mountains and rivers in Sichuan such as Mount Qingcheng, Mount Emei and Dujiangyan. “It’s so beautiful, and it’s so spectacular.” the students exclaimed. “It is the mountains and rivers that breed Chinese poetry.” Shaha, a PhD student from Bangladesh, said. “China has taken good care of the ecological environment and now I have a deeper understanding on ‘Green Waters and Lush Mountains are Invaluable Assets’. After graduation, I will bring the concept of ecological civilization I learned in China back to my country and hope to better protect our ecological environment.”
The “Beautiful China in the Lights” movie screening activity is one of the series of “Understand Red China, Focus on the Green Mountain” — the international students education activities on China’s national conditions held by the School of International Education and Exchanges. The aim of the activity is to carefully choose some film and TV productions to introduce traditional Chinese culture and China’s ecological civilization construction. It is hoped that through the regular screening of movies, the international students can have chances to deeply understand the “Saihanba Spirit” and know about the achievements of China’s construction of ecological civilization.
